Meet a legal transcriptionist!  Barbara Glenn and her family have moved around the country, following her husband’s employment.  But for the past few years, they  have happily resided in  beautiful  Oklahoma.  A former schoolteacher, Barb wanted to stay home and also be gainfully employed.  She explains more for us.

What led you to the decision to become a legal transcriptionist?

I love to type.  So I thought some sort of transcription would be a good fit for me.  I began with lots of online research.  In so doing, I discovered that legal transcription is a very viable career that I could do from my own home.

However, I knew nothing about how to transcribe or even where to begin.  This was a completely new field of work, but it interested me.  And I continued thinking about how to make it happen.

So where did your research  about transcription lead you?

Well, I knew that I needed some quality training, along with help actually locating employment.  I saw a Facebook post from Court Reporter Linda Wilson about her Fast-Track Legal Transcription training.  Of course, I was intrigued and interested.

As a result, I immediately contacted Linda at Learn to Transcribe with a few questions.  Her response was exactly what I had hoped for.  So I just jumped right in with no hesitation.

Tell us how the training went, from your perspective.

Oh, it was much better than I had expected.  We were online with live training, and it was intense and fast paced.  Nothing short of amazing, actually, that we covered such a huge amount of material in a very short period of time.

However, despite an incredible amount of new information to quickly absorb, Linda was patient.  She made sure we understood each piece before moving to the next lecture.

At the end of the training, were you offered a paid apprenticeship?

Yes.  I completed my apprenticeship, and  I really appreciated the feedback that I received.  The opportunity to “learn and earn” was invaluable to me as a newbie.  As a result, my confidence in my own abilities as a legal transcriptionist was greatly boosted.

Consequently, I can tackle challenging assignments now without being nervous.  My excellent training and my apprenticeship changed my life.  I can work full time as a legal transcriptionist and still be at home with my family.

What would you tell someone on the fence about legal transcription?

It’s definitely a viable and growing type of work that can be done remotely.  The opportunity is there to make a good income, too.

Don’t procrastinate.  What have you got to lose by taking the excellent training at Learn to Transcribe?  The sooner you start, the sooner you will be working.

Do you intend to become nationally certified as a legal transcriptionist?

Yes.  In the course, I was introduced to the American Association of Electronic Reporters and Transcribers.  I knew nothing about that organization until then.  So I  recently attended their two-day virtual conference to learn more.

As a former teacher, I know the importance of certifications.  Consequently, I intend to pursue obtaining my CET.  And I do believe having it will open more doors for me in my new career.

In Conclusion …
