Naturally, if you spent a good portion of each day and night diligently working your way through training, you could finish much faster than someone with a full-time job. Therefore, the length of training varies from person to person because both the legal transcription and scopist training is online and self-paced.

Typical training for general transcription should not take nearly as long as for legal or medical transcription. On average, legal transcription training takes a few weeks to a few months.
Training for a scopist takes a few months. In addition to some of the same things a legal transcriptionist learns, a scopist must also learn CAT software and how to read steno notes to become a proficient scopist.

Training costs for legal transcriptionists and scopists?

The cost for transcription training varies, depending on which type of transcription is involved. Typical costs are from inexpensive (for general transcription courses) to a few hundred dollars (for a full-blown legal transcription course).
